Taking walks in Druid Hill Park had sparked this very small mini-series I'm working on. By mini I don't mean small, this painting is 5x4. It won't have the over 70 works like my subway sonnets had- and I fully plan on continuing to explore those.
This way of painting has always interested me- it's the meditative state I enjoy, practicing moving the brush or mop without paint. It involves the entire body and even though you know you really don't know what is unexpectedly to happen. But like the signs around the park with random messages that make you feel and think- i infuse messages over the paint. Which in itself is odd because it's not usually done with this type of brushwork. But- it's meant to urge you to stop and consider. Like the sonnets- just less information.
The one image I use here is of a photograph that was the first photo I saw of my now husband when he was visiting NYC from London in the early 90s and lends the title to the painting ‘small leap of faith’ the other is part of a quote from F. Scott Fitzgerald. Both very important messages.
